Welcome to the English version of the
Steinkjer FK website!!
It is our aim to spread the word of SFK.
Who are we?
Where are we?
What is our aims and targets?
First of all, “FK” = FC, “Fotball Klubb” = Football Club
THE CITY
Steinkjer (link) is a city sited on the shore of Beitstad Fjord. The city is 150 years old this year. We are approximately 130km north of the city of Trondheim, the third largest city in Norway. The nearest airport is Vaernes Airport, 90km south of Steinkjer.
THE CLUB
SFK play in the Norwegian second division, which is the third tier of Norwegian football.
TIPPELIGAEN (Premiership)
ADDECOLIGAEN (Division 1)
The Norwegian league is a summer league due to the extreme winters that we experience in Norway. The season runs from April-October. With the advance of technology, more and more Norwegian clubs are turning to synthetic, rubber-crumb all weather pitches. These pitches are ratified by FIFA and UEFA for use in their competitions. During this season’s Champions League, Spartak Moscow used such a surface for their home games, including the game versus Arsenal. SFK’s home stadium is Guldbergaunet (pronounced Gul-bay-gownet) and has a rubber-crumb surface.
The huge advantage of these pitches is they can be used all year round, making it possible to have training and coaching sessions during the winter months.
Season is from April-October
The target for this season is to finish in the top half of the league, an improvement on last season when the club finished below halfway.
Clubs are allowed to enter their reserve teams into the league pyramid system. But there are certain rules and regulations. Obviously, the first team and the reserve team cannot play in the same league. The Tippeligaen clubs reserve team must have one division between them. To give an example, in our league, there are two Tippaligaen club’s reserves. These clubs’s are recognised by the number 2 next to the club name. Lyn 2, and Vålerengen 2. These club’s cannot be promoted. But, should their first team be relegated from Tippeligaen to the Addecoligaen (Premiership to Division I) then the reserve team will also be relegated one division.
